Indie vs. Multi-Million Dollar Budget Movies
Kisses And Caroms Discussion Board: Indie vs. Multi-Million Dollar Budget Movies
Bart | Thursday, October 09, 2003 - 06:25 pm So, yesterday I did some background work on Martin Scorcese's new epic, 'The Aviator'. I was there from 11:00AM to 5:00AM, and they did two scenes. The bulk was one scene where all us extras give a standing ovation to the film, 'Hells Angels'. The shorter scene was us extras watching 'The Jazz Singer' while Leonardo DeCaprio says something to someone else in the background. I think this will pan out to about 2 minutes of the film. 200 extras. All at some point making overtime. The crew, also at some point making overtime. Renting out big pieces of the Hotel Roosevelt and the main auditorium of the Chinese Theatre. First -- sure I respect Marty's work -- but 2 miuntes of film in 16 hours?!?!? And, the food sucked. Big time. Multi-million dollar budget and we got swill. Thank you guys for the Outback! Indie films make so much more sense... --Bart |
Vince (Vince) | Friday, October 10, 2003 - 03:09 pm I really can't wait for the day I can relax, make a million, and shoot 2 minutes every 16 hours. God, what a dream. The food might have sucked for the crew, but what was Marty and Leo eating? |
Jay | Monday, October 13, 2003 - 02:59 am One of my first jobs in LA was doing background for Wild Wild West. I was in the scene where Will Smith rescues everyone from Dr. Loveless. We shot for a week and a half and I think the scene takes about 5 minutes in the film. This is because Barry Sonnenfeld directed and he's a former cinematographer and the cinematographer is always the guy who is slowing things down because he wants to get the picture as pretty as possible. I'm not complaining. I made good money and one day we even went into golden time. (That's a day's pay for every hour you work past 16.) And the food was pretty good. |
